Young Authors at IGEMS

On Thursday, March 3rd, four 7th and 8th grade students had the opportunity to meet virtually with author and illustrator Rick Chrustowski.

During the first session, the focus was on using figures of speech to enhance storytelling.  Rick covered many different forms of figurative language like simile, metaphor, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and personification using quick writes to drive home the differences between them. The second session was all about conflict.  Rick  used examples from his own books to show how conflict can make a  story more exciting. Each student did a quick-write showing their own idea of how to use conflict in a story.
