Eighty talented young musicians came together from across the state to entertain FFA members, advisors, and guests during the Wisconsin State FFA Convention, performing at several convention sessions. This is a select group of FFA members. The band participants were selected through an application and audition tapes by the State Band Director, Monte Dunnum. The first time these students practiced together is at the State FFA Convention. They begin rehearsing the first morning of the convention and are performing in only a short time after that. They are an exceptionally talented group. Additionally, the State FFA Band represents the Wisconsin Association of FFA at the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis in August. The band performs over a four-day span at events during the fair. Great job, Gracie, performing this week and representing the Iowa-Grant FFA Chapter in a positive way!

Wednesday's science class had us exploring the weather. We completed experiments to help us learn about air pressure, thunderstorms and rainbows. Thursday brought the most fun with a variety of experiments including making bubbles, a bouncy ball and a non-Newtonian fluid (cornstarch mud).

The 2023 Winner in Dairy Production – Entrepreneurship is Alexis of the Iowa – Grant FFA. This proficiency is sponsored by Crystal Farms Dairy Company. Alexis received her first brown swiss because she begged her dad for one after falling in love with their personality. Now, Alexis owns a herd of 100 Brown Swiss, with 70% being born on the family farm. Alexis assists in all aspects of daily care including feeding, cleaning pens, milking cows, monitoring herd health, and treating sickness. In 2019, Alexis was able to gain even further skills, as she started making the breeding decisions, keeping records, and doing registration for her own herd. Additionally, Alexis provides special care to her show cattle by walking, washing, and feeding a special ration to them to ensure that they are ready to be shown. Alexis’ advisor is Mrs. Lara Hammerly. We would like to recognize the state finalists in Dairy Production (Entrepreneurship): Second: Paige of the Marshall FFA Third: Rebecca of the Bigfoot FFA Fourth: Tanna of the Loyal FFA Fifth: Estella of the Mineral Point FFA Alexis will find out this summer if she is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Alexis will compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., in November.
