Maddie R.'s leadership and hard work will be hard to replace next year! Apart from her work painting the set, Maddie helped organize and prepare all the costumes in the days leading up to our dress rehearsal. During the show, Maddie ran our sound system, which included managing 9 microphones and 3 instruments in the pit orchestra. It was a new challenge and she handled it well! Congratulations, Maddie!
Mary Johannesen, Career Prep and Dual Enrollment Coordinator from Southwest Technical College, visited with all Iowa-Grant Sophomores and Juniors on Monday, November 14th. Mary presented information to students regarding the educational partnership between CESA #3 and Southwest Tech which allows students to earn college credits while in high school to get a jump start on their future career. Iowa-Grant High School students were recently invited to participate in the Voice of Democracy audio essay contest. Lucy S. was chosen as the winner for her essay about why the veteran is important. She is pictured accepting her award with Commander Klaas. Lucy's essay will advance to the next level. Jayden B. also competed in the contest and was runner up. Ivy L. brings a ton of creative, spontaneous spirit to our shows every year. This year as Torrey the wedding planner, Ivy portrayed their character’s extreme ups and downs throughout the show and helped find ways to bring more energy to each of their scenes. As an audience, it’s fun to watch students who have made their character their own, and Ivy has been one of those students every year. Congratulations, Ivy!
Leslie B. rounded out the senior stage crew leadership by helping out with props, sets, and furniture. During the show, the stage crew need to move things around quickly, quietly, and sometimes even in the dark. Leslie helped take charge to make those things happen! Congratulations, Leslie!
Ty R. has been a dependable part of our stage crew over the last four years. As a freshman, Ty did backstage props for The Third Wave, including running the school bell which rang throughout the show. This year his job was much quieter, and he led the lights team that was seated behind the audience. Congratulations, Ty!

On Wednesday this week, the Kindergarten class traveled to Cooks Woods. The students learned about types of evergreen trees, how long it takes trees to grow, and how to count the rings on a tree trunk to tell how old it is. Kindergarteners also helped to make a wreath, door swags, and cut down two trees to decorate the IGEMS front entrance. Thank you to Dave and Barb Cook, along with their wonderful employees, for making this trip a memorable experience for our students!
Eighth grade student Mason H. is our first reading millionaire at IGEMS. Mason read nine books in 11 weeks! That is quite an accomplishment. We set forth a challenge to our students to read one million words in a school year. Studies have shown that those students who read a million words in a school year have better vocabulary, background knowledge, problem solving abilities, and perform better on standardized tests. Keep on reading, Panthers!
Kenadie M. did a terrific job this year with her supporting role as Hannah. Each supporting role in our show has a stand-out moment, and Kenadie’s was the slow-motion fight near the end of the show. Kenadie brought her creativity and perseverance to help solve problems and overcome challenges. Congratulations, Kenadie!

Brad the Book Guy travels to middle schools and high schools to present a live show where he previews and recommends books for students to read. We enjoy listening to his program each week.
It was very exciting to have him here with us at IGEMS. Brad donated several popular books for our classroom libraries. It is always good to make time for reading.
