Mr. Van Overmeer's 6th Grade Stem Challenge.
Once a month in math the sixth graders work as partners to do a STEAM Challenge (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics). These challenges encourage them to think critically to create their own solution to a problem. They are designed to incorporate real world design elements with hands-on learning.
The challenge this month was to build a free standing bridge using only six strips of construction paper and a glue stick. Students had thirty minutes to plan and complete the task before testing their build. For the test students added AA batteries until the bridge failed or reached capacity. The winning bridges held 40 AA batteries which is over two pounds!

Annual Iowa-Grant Toy Drive! Celebrate the season of giving by sharing your new or gently used toys (please no stuffed animals!) and books with the families of the Iowa-Grant School District! If your child has outgrown a toy or that toy they had to have last year has been sitting on the shelf for the last 6 months, now is the time to send it to a new home where it can be loved by another child! Please make sure toys are in good shape and have all their pieces! Toys and books can be dropped off at IGEMS from November 28th through December 7th. We also will accept things for our older students such as new blankets, jewelry, craft kits, sports equipment, card games, etc… If you are interested in sending in a monetary donation please make checks out to the Iowa-Grant School District and mark the envelope Toy Drive. This money will be used to fill some of the specific wish list items. Santa Sacks: Families who are struggling financially and are concerned about providing for their families during the holiday season can sign up to receive a Santa Sack. Santa Sacks will be filled with new or gently used toys from our toy drive donations. If your family is in need of a Santa Sack please contact Darcy Breuer at dbreuer@igs.k12.wi.us to sign up before November 30th . Please include the following things in the email: your name and the best way to contact you, child(ren)’s age and gender, and a wish list of 2-3 items for each child. Staff members will make up a Santa Sack for your family and you will be notified when your sack is ready to pick up at the school. If you have any questions please contact Darcy Breuer at dbreuer@igs.k12.wi.us Thank you for your generosity and for helping us bring the Christmas spirit to our community!

Iowa-Grant High School students were given the opportunity to write a persuasive essay in which they developed a Clean Energy Transition Plan. The essay contest was sponsored by Iowa County Clean Local Alliance, a project of the Driftless Area Land Conservancy and The Dodgeville Chronicle. To receive bonus points toward their final scores, students had the option to present to their class, the school board, or both. The top three essays from Iowa-Grant won cash awards. Meagan C. received $250 for first place, Lillian W. $125 for second place, and Rylee S. $75 for third place. Great job to all who participated!

Congratulations Mason on making Top 15 All-Conference!!!

Congratulations Treaton on making Ridge & Valley All-Conference!!!!

Maddie R.'s leadership and hard work will be hard to replace next year! Apart from her work painting the set, Maddie helped organize and prepare all the costumes in the days leading up to our dress rehearsal. During the show, Maddie ran our sound system, which included managing 9 microphones and 3 instruments in the pit orchestra. It was a new challenge and she handled it well! Congratulations, Maddie!

Audrey R. was a crucial part of our stage crew this year. She provided creative ideas and strong leadership in painting our set this year. She also helped organize the costumes for the show as part of our costume team. Each cast member on stage had at least one costume change; some students had quite a few! Audrey helped organize and run it all, and our show would not have run as smoothly without her leadership. Congratulations Audrey!
