Middle School Cross Country is ready to begin this fall 2023 at IGEMS!
Cross Country involves running longer distances over various terrain but keep in mind, the training for Cross Country involves more than just running! Throughout the season we do a variety of different workouts such as easy distance runs, hill sprints, strength work (i.e. pushups, lunges, squats, etc.), and core work (i.e. crunches, planks, etc.). Students will run on the grass, pavement, and trails located around the Iowa-Grant campus. One of the great things about cross country, aside from getting you into shape, is that it can be done with nothing more than some dedication and a pair of running shoes. No experience necessary!
Students who participate in cross country will race several times throughout the season at our cross country meets. These meets will be against other schools in our area and will consist of a 1.5 or a 2 mile race. Generally there are separate races for boys and girls. The season begins with practice on Thursday, September 7th - 3:35 - 4:45. and ends in the beginning of October.
6th, 7th and 8th graders interested in becoming part of the Iowa-Grant Cross Country Middle School team, please watch for information on the Iowa-Grant Facebook page or stop in and sign up with Mrs. Laufenburg. IMPORTANT: 6th and 7th graders need a physical to participate on the team, your physician will give you the paperwork.

Back to School Night is Happening Tonight! (8/24)

The FFA Chicken Coop located on the west side of the greenhouse has received some much needed love and attention these past few weeks. We have added a variety of indoor and outdoor roosting bars, a dust bath, and a shade curtain to protect them from the afternoon sun and heat. We have some very spoiled chickens!
Special thank you to the Matt and Tina Parish Family and the Troy and Marsha Wyatt Family for their guidance, construction, and the rehoming of our "retired" chickens.

The Cross Country Scrimmage scheduled for tomorrow (8/22) has been canceled due to the heat index. It will not be rescheduled.
Go Panthers and Stay Cool!

Tomorrow's JV Game vs Fennimore (Home) will now start at 7:00 PM due to heat.
Go Panthers!!!

The Iowa-Grant Cross Country Team Store is now open!
There are two screen printed designs available on a variety of color and clothing options, along with embroidered apparel. There is also "IG" branded headwear options that are not specific to cross country.
The store closes on August 27 and will be delivered 2-3 following the closing of the store. Please contact Coach Winkler with any questions.

Go Panthers!!!!

Our first session of "Ready, Set, Go!" was a success! It was great to see so many smiling faces. 😃 Welcome to Iowa-Grant, 4K Panthers! 🐾

📚Have you read any hilarious books lately? These summer school students enjoyed two silly stories on their last day of summer school!😂
📕First, we read "Diary of a Worm"- All this talk about worms led us to making dirt dessert! 🪱
📘Then, we read another Doreen Cronin story- "Diary of a Fly." All this talk about diaries📓meant we had to make our own! Students wrote their first diary entry and decorated their covers. Keep writing✏️, Panthers!
It was a great week reading and laughing together.🐾

Students in grades 3rd through 6th spent the week exploring all around the world! We spent a day in China making dragons and writing our names in Chinese then traveled to France where we made homemade crepes and straw Eiffel Towers. Wednesday we went to Brazil to make rain sticks, snakes, and chocolate truffles, and ended our week in Australia where we tasted fairy bread and decorated our own boomerangs!

Balancing birds, mug cakes, spinners, marshmallow launchers, pearler bead magnets, decorated folders, oh my! We were creative and had fun this week in make it and take it!

LEGOS, LEGOS, everywhere! So far in our LEGO class we have completed LEGO logic puzzles, made a LEGO bridge, created LEGO secret codes and constructed a LEGO car and garage with our partner using only one hand!

Summer school students in the class, "A Book a Day," 📚"bear"ly 🐻had enough time to get through all of our bear books by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman!
📕"Bear's Loose Tooth" inspired us to make tooth pillows to store our baby teeth! 🦷
📘Then, we enjoyed a yummy treat while we listened to "Bear Wants More"-a story about Bear eating after hibernation. We sure had some hungry bears in the classroom! 🐻
📙Finally, "Bear Says Thanks" reminded us of the importance of saying "thank you." Students picked a person to thank for making their summer great!😎
🐾Keep listening to stories and reading, Panthers! 🐾

📚Read, read, read! That's exactly what we intend to do this week in summer school. Today was all about Pete the Cat books!
📕Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses- Students crafted a 3D cat and had the option to add "cool, blue, magic" sunglasses.🕶️
📙Pete the Cat Crayons Rock- Students decorated a crayon box to take home.🖍️
📘Pete the Cat and the Cool Cat Boogie- We had a dance party! 🪩
Reading sure can inspire us to use our creativity!🎶🎨
